Thank you for visiting my website. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over thirty years’ experience in the practice of psychotherapy. I currently offer psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults, and psychological evaluations for children and adolescents. I’m also available to provide lectures, workshops and trainings in psychological understanding and approaches to children.
What does Psychotherapy Do? In these complicated times, people encounter complicated problems that make it difficult to find satisfaction and reach their desired life goals. These difficulties can be due to unresolved family issues, unusual circumstances, loss and grief, or painful experiences that have left their mark. In the high-paced and complex world we live in, many of us have not been prepared to use our inner psychological resources effectively. We may not have had the support we needed at critical times of growth or crisis, or we may encounter overwhelming experiences that few are prepared to cope with no matter how well they have been nurtured.
Through the effective communication of a therapeutic relationship, psychotherapy helps participants to understand their difficulties, supports them as they grapple with the pain and new learning, and find inner resources to cope with problems and reach new levels of satisfaction.
My Background: I received my doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1976, then did post-doctoral training for two years in a collaborative project with Boston University, the Simmons School of Social Work, and Leslie College’s Art Therapy Program. I then studied family therapy at the Family Institute of Cambridge, MA. I have been a school psychologist in public and private schools in Baltimore, Boston, and Santa Fe, and directed children’s services at the Eliot Community Mental Health Center outside of Boston. While at the Eliot clinic, I developed and led a family therapy training program for staff and community providers. During my twenty years in the Boston area, I also provided psychological evaluations for child and adolescent inpatient units in area hospitals.
I’ve been here in Santa Fe since 1994, have served as a school psychologist and school counselor in the public schools, and was the Coordinator of the Wellness Services Department. I currently teach psychology for the College of Santa Fe, and have taught at the graduate level in several college and university programs both her and in the east.
My career-long interest in child development has led me into an intensive study of the social-emotional aspects of neuropsychology and attachment. I am currently working at applying new developments in these areas to various aspects of child and family functioning, including the implications for parents and professionals who serve children.
I served in the Peace Corps in Colombia, South America, and am conversational in Spanish.
